Tree Planting and Habitat Restoration Activity
Rajburi Sugar Factory, in collaboration with government agencies and local authorities, organized a commercial reforestation activity titled “Love the Earth, Protect the Soil, Reduce Heat” in Ang Hin Sub-district, Pak Tho District, Ratchaburi Province, to expand green spaces and reduce greenhouse gases in the Earth’s atmosphere, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
(June 5, 2025) Ms. Warittha Sanguansermsri, Deputy Governor of Ratchaburi Province, presided over the opening of the activity to promote the sustainability of natural resources and the environment in the reforestation project “Love the Earth, Protect the Soil, Reduce Heat” at Moo 6, Ang Hin Sub-district, Pak Tho District, Ratchaburi Province. The event was attended by Mrs. Araya Arunanondchai, Chief Executive Officer and President of Rajburi Sugar Co., Ltd., Dr. Surapol Chamart, Advisor to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Mr. Narong Khongchon, former Deputy Governor of Ratchaburi Province, Ms. Thirattheeya Supachai, Provincial Public Relations Officer, Mr. Supat Onkong, Ratchaburi Provincial Agricultural Officer, along with representatives from various government agencies and relevant local administrators.
The Rajburi Sugar Group organized this activity under a concept that focuses on forest and soil resource conservation by accelerating the restoration of degraded forest areas and planting trees on extreme sandy soil unsuitable for sugarcane cultivation, covering an area of 250 rais over a period of 10 years. The initiative involved jointly planting forest trees in natural forest areas, planting Acacia mangium x Acacia auriculiformis (Kathin Thepnarong) in forest plantation areas, and measuring tree growth to develop the project for forest-sector greenhouse gas certification.
This aims to reduce heat hotspots in extreme sandy soil areas and create a balance in soil and water ecosystems by protecting the soil surface to retain moisture, absorbing rainwater, and gradually releasing moisture from forest areas to neighboring agricultural lands. This fosters a supportive coexistence between Rajburi Sugar Co., Ltd. and the sugarcane farming community, increases atmospheric carbon dioxide absorption, addresses climate change issues in Ratchaburi Province, and responds to the 20-Year National Strategy regarding eco-friendly growth for quality of life. It also aligns with Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 13 (urgent action to combat climate change) and SDG 15 (supporting conservation, halting land degradation, and restoring forests to their natural state as targeted).
